Winter has certainly made itself known here at Great Kellow Farm, with plenty of wet and muddy weather over the past few months. While the rain has kept us busy, it’s also been an important time of year for the farm as we prepare for the new season ahead.
From caring for our animals through the colder months to getting the campsite ready to reopen in spring, there’s been a lot happening behind the scenes. Here’s a little update from the farm and a glimpse of what’s coming up as we move towards the warmer months.
Winter Life at Great Kellow Farm
Like much of Cornwall, the farm has seen its fair share of winter rain this year. The fields have been muddy, the boots have been well worn, and daily farm work has often meant working around the weather.
Winter is always a quieter time for visitors, but it’s far from quiet for us. This season gives us the opportunity to focus on important maintenance and preparation work around the farm, making sure everything is ready for the year ahead.
Getting the Campsite Ready for the New Season
Although it might still feel like winter outside, preparations are already well underway to reopen the Great Kellow Farm campsite in April.
Over the past few months we’ve been:
- Carrying out general campsite maintenance
- Checking facilities and infrastructure
- Preparing pitches for the new camping season
- Making improvements to ensure the site stays comfortable and welcoming
Our aim each year is to keep the campsite a relaxing, nature-friendly place where visitors can enjoy the countryside while experiencing life on a working farm.
As spring approaches, we’re looking forward to welcoming campers back to enjoy the fresh air, open space, and peaceful surroundings of camping at Great Kellow Farm.
Looking Ahead to Lambing Season
While campsite preparations are underway, much of our attention over the winter months has been on the farm animals.
The sheep have been well cared for throughout the colder weather, and now we’re getting ready for one of the most exciting times of the farming calendar: lambing season in March.
Lambing is always one of our favourite, and busiest, times of the year. There’s something very special about the first signs of spring on the farm and the arrival of new lambs in the fields. It’s a real reminder that warmer, brighter days are on their way.
Follow the Lambing Updates
If you’d like to see what’s happening on the farm during lambing season, we’ll be sharing plenty of updates on our social media pages.
You can expect:
- Behind-the-scenes moments from the farm
- Updates from lambing season
- Photos and videos of our newest arrivals
And of course, plenty of cute lamb photos.
We Look Forward to Welcoming You Back
Thank you for your continued support of Great Kellow Farm. Whether you’ve visited before or are planning your first stay, we’re looking forward to welcoming campers back when the campsite opens again in April.
Spring is a beautiful time to visit the farm, with new life in the fields and the countryside beginning to wake up after winter.
We hope to see you soon.
